Be careful of the way you’re speaking to yourself, because you are listening!

Our words shape our whole world. The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a network of neurons in your brainstem that filters the 14,000,000 bits of information we receive at any one time into information we can process. Our words, thoughts, and experiences program that filter.

So if you go around every day saying “I’m so busy”, “I have so much work on”, “I HAVE to go to work” – your RAS will see and let in information that confirms that language. It validates your beliefs, it’s confirmation bias.

What if instead your life is “full”? What if you have “all the time and energy you need to do what’s important”? What if you “get” to go to work, spend time with your family, see your friends? Can you feel a shift just from reading that?

That shift is real – and just by changing your words you can burn-in a long term positive mindset. You actively reprogramme the RAS by shifting how you speak and how think. Essentially, the mind believes what you tell it – so take charge!

Ready to change your life?

How do you speak to yourself? How would you like to speak to yourself?

Get aware of some of your common phrases you think or say – like “I can’t do that” or “How stupid of me” or “maybe” or “try”. Write them down, and decide some ways you can shift your language.

Mantras and Affirmations

A lot of people will use mantras or positive affirmations to help.

Mantras are simple, aspirational, and said in the present tense. What do you want to call in? What’s a simple affirmation that embodies that vision?

If it doesn’t sit right with you to go completely positive, you can start your mantra with “I’m starting to…” or “I believe that…” or “I’m getting better at…”
